Before someone gets hurt by what they read.
It hits the eyes of those that couldn't sleep.
Falls off their pillows, rolls on the carpet
Where they nestle in the fabric and rot, rot, rot...
Before someone gets hurt by the words
That hit the ears of listeners,
And instantly fall to the Earth
Where they plant themselves firmly in the dirt,
And grow, grow, grow...

This sounds like it could be a song... Did you have a melody in mind when you wrote this?
And was there a particular story on the news that inspired this poem?
I love the lines:
"Falls off their pillows, rolls on the carpet
Where they nestle in the fabric and rot, rot, rot..."
The sound of the words together are interesting--you get the feel of a run-on, yet the period between "sleep and Falls" separates the two into fragments. I like that.
This was just a free write; inspired by a conversation with a friend. I don't think I could make it in to a song because it's so loquacious - I would imagine it would sound like a "rap song" if sang. Not that there is anything wrong with rap, but obviously my voice doesn't correlate well with the idea, haha.
